Powermates are not Barlow lenses...They do it much better...
Powermates are the answer to many problems that come with the use of Barlow lenses.
In certain combinations the use of a Barlow lens is impossible or at least not beneficial, but a Powermate can still be used.
Powermates can be used comfortably for prime focus photography, whilst the use of a Barlow similarly is far from ideal.
Powermates also preserve the original eye relief that makes it more comfortable to use your eyepiece just as if there was no other optical element; it also means that increased vignetting is avoided, too.
